2020 Virtual Events
Join us this year as District Pink hosts a virtual wellness retreat on Saturday, October 24, 2020. The fight against cancer goes far beyond the cancer itself. It affects your entire being: fitness, diet, well-being, and every aspect of daily life.
Kerri Weir, District Pink Founder, knows firsthand. At age 33, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and every facet of her life changed. Her story is not unique; today, those battling cancer and survivors alike are looking for outlets in their journey back to recovery.
Each of the events planned for this Virtual Wellness Retreat have special meaning to Kerri’s personal recovery: from a healthy, well-rounded diet and finding inner beauty during chemo to rehabilitation through boxing and mindful physical therapy. All events are available at no cost.
If you’re interested in donating to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, you can do so here.
Boxing Boot Camp (9:00am - 9:45am)
District Pink founder, Kerri Weir, started boxing to help process the different emotions that came with navigating her life post-cancer. Whether it’s a tough day at work, an argument with a family member, or some extra quarantine pounds (raised hands emoji), you’re only one workout away from feeling stronger and fitter. In this session, Lacadre Howard will lead you through a workout that’s guaranteed to leave you hooked! see what we did there :)
Yoga + Meditation (10:00am - 10:45am)
Kerri found that mindfulness helped her to navigate the uncertainty of a cancer diagnosis and complications of recovery. And this year—let’s be honest—we are ALL dealing with a lot of uncertainty and the stress of it is activating our nervous systems. It’s time to slow down, get in touch with our bodies, and R-E-L-A-X. Lucky for you, health coach and personal trainer Caroline Rand will lead us through a yoga sequence that’s sure to melt all your worries away.
Cooking Class (12:00pm - 1:00pm)
Research shows that diets consisting of plant-based protein sources and a high intake of fruits and vegetables are related to a lower risk of cancer. Although the occasional cupcake or glass of wine is helpful, Kerri prioritizes a balanced diet of proteins, fruits, and vegetables. Need some inspo for how to do it? Join NBC Chief White House Correspondent Hallie Jackson for some fun in the kitchen! Participants will receive the recipe in advance in order to follow along at home.
Make-up Tutorial (4:00pm - 5:00pm)
(New Time!) Appearance can play a big role in our identity, how we’re perceived at work, or our self-esteem. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy especially, note that there can be more to healing than just medicine…and assistance with their appearance (wigs, eye-brow tinting, make-up) can help with maintaining a positive mindset in recovery. With the help of her friends and a local DC salon, Kerri was able to define her new “beautiful” after losing her hair during treatment due to chemo. Join us for a make-up tutorial from the comfort of your own home. Glam squad not required! Participants will receive instructions in advance in order to follow along virtually.
